The Lasithi Windmills are a major attraction in Lasithi Plateau, there are around 10,000 windmills here, these windmills were designed in 1464 by Venetian engineers for the purpose of irrigation. Only a few of these windmills are in working condition today, however, they make a splendid sight, and the area near Lasithi Plateau is equally interesting with a number of small caves and also ruins of Minoan civilization.
There is the Trapeza cave and the Cave of Psychro that are the most interesting of all, Lasithi Plateau is an interesting place to see, just make sure you wear shoes with good grip for climbing the plateau as the ground may be slippery. If your planning to see the caves, make sure you bring a torch with you, July and August are the best months to visit the place.
