Apokrias – Greece Carnival Season 1st - 14th of February
The Greece Carnival Season known as the Apokrias runs for three weeks, the first week starts with the opening of the Holy Book, the second week is the last week for eating meat, after this week, meat is eaten only after Lent. On the last day of Apokrias, carnivals and parades are held and marks the end of marriage season until after Easter.
Rethymno Carnival 1st of February - 31st of March
Rethymno Carnival is the biggest carnival in Crete, it was first celebrated in 1960, on this day a parade runs through the streets, the parade ends in the Square of Four Martyrs. The organizers of the carnival sail on a gondola and go out to invite the people of Hania and Heraklion to join the carnival.
