Rethymno Carnival 1st of February - 31st of March

Rethymno Carnival is the biggest carnival in Crete, it was first celebrated in 1960, on this day a parade runs through the streets, the parade ends in the Square of Four Martyrs. The organizers of the carnival sail on a gondola and go out to invite the people of Hania and Heraklion to join the carnival.

1821 Memorial Parade 25th of March

The Memorial Parade is organized on the 25th of March each year and is celebrated as the Greek National Anniversary and is a national holiday. It commemorates the day when the Greeks won the battle against the Turks and were freed from their rule after 400 years, in big towns and cities, military parades are held on this day.
