There are number of flights to Heraklion Airport and Chania Airport in Crete, during the main season, from the end of April to October there are a greater number of flights available from UK and various airports around the europe, the majority of flights to Heraklion Airport and Chania Airport take off on Tuesdays and Fridays. If your travelling from Athens, then there are number of daily flights to Crete, if your travelling from the UK then the following airlines offer flights to Crete, JMC Airlines, Monarch, Air 2000, Britannia, Air tours, Virgin Sun and Flight line, British Airways has two direct flights to Crete from the UK, these are just a few of the regular airlines that fly to Crete from the UK, flights normally take about 4 hours.

You can travel to Crete by sea too, there are a number of ferries that run from Piraeus and Athens to Crete every day, the Anek Lines sails from Piraeous to Iraklio and from Iraklio to Piraeous at 8pm, and also from Piraeous to Chania and Chania to Piraeous at 8:30pm. There is a ferry that goes from Piraeous to Rethymno and from Rethymno to Piraeous at 7:30pm. You can also catch the Minoan Lines from Piraeous to Iraklio and Iraklio to Piraeous which leaves at 10pm, in the summer the times are often changed, unfortunately there are there are no ferries that sail directly to Crete from Italy, so you would have to travel from Italy via Greece to reach Crete.
